1. Light and Airy Fabrics

Opt for breathable, flowy fabrics like cotton, linen, or chiffon to stay cool in the tropical heat and capture beautiful movement in the wind. Ladies, a skirt or dress that has movement will bring a lot of fun to the photos when we start shooting candidly and with prompts that create movement. These materials also give a relaxed, beachy vibe.

2. Neutral and Soft Colors

Shades like white, beige, soft blues, and pastels blend beautifully with the beach setting. These tones help you stand out while complementing the sand, sea, and sky. Avoid neon colors or busy patterns that may clash with the natural background. Also avoid both wearing black where when we get you close together, you end up losing your own figures and turn into a blob.

3. Bold Accents for Pop

If you want a little more flair, add one bold accent like coral, mustard, or turquoise to contrast with softer neutrals. This can be done through accessories or subtle pops in your outfit.

4. Comfortable Footwear (or Go Barefoot!)

Struggling on what to wear to a beach photoshoot in Puerto Rico doesn’t have to be in the shoe department. If you’re on the sand, barefoot is always a great option. Otherwise, opt for simple sandals or flip-flops that are easy to remove and won’t sink into the sand. When on the beach, we do recommend going barefoot!

5. Flowy Dresses or Maxi Skirts for Women

Ladies, let’s have some fun with the flow! Instead of struggling on what to wear to a beach photoshoot in Puerto Rico, keep it simple in a long, flowy dresses or a skirt that adds a dreamy element to the photos. Keep it simple with minimal patterns for an elegant, timeless look.

6. Relaxed, Casual Clothing for Men

Men can go for linen button-down shirts, rolled-up sleeves, and lightweight shorts or chinos. This gives a relaxed but polished feel that’s perfect for a beach shoot. Gents – pro tip – bring a sweat rag!

7. Avoid Logos and Heavy Patterns

To keep the focus on you and not your clothing, avoid large logos or busy patterns that might distract from the natural beauty of the beach setting.

8. Accessorize Lightly

Accessories like sun hats, simple jewelry, or a light scarf can add a nice touch, but avoid anything too heavy or distracting. Keep it beach-friendly! If you have a tan line from a watch, let us know if you would like us to Photoshop it out. Especially when you have a Puerto Rico family photography session, keep the accessories at a minimum. It’s about you and your family, not the accessories!

9. Consider the Time of Day

If your session is during sunset or early morning, colors like soft pinks, oranges, or light purples will look stunning against the warm, golden light. If you’re going for an afternoon session, softer colors like whites and beiges will be great. When booking a Puerto Rico family photography session, you’ll want to think about comfortability for everyone involved. Babies are best shot in shade in the early morning for example. We will want to plan for kids nap times and feeding times and less on when is the flattering light.

10. Dress for Comfort and Movement

Make sure whatever you wear allows you to move freely—whether that’s running along the shoreline, playing in the sand, or just relaxing. Comfort leads to more natural, joyful photos.

This balance of style, comfort, and connection to nature will help ensure your beach photos in Puerto Rico come out beautifully!
